The High Mountain Pass
The air grows thin and biting as you ascend into the jagged, snow-dusted teeth of the Frostpeak Mountains. The path before you is a treacherous, winding trail of cracked stone and ice, carved precariously into the side of a sheer, snow-covered cliff face.
To your left, massive, ancient statues of forgotten mountain lords loom over the trail, their features weathered by centuries of storms, staring stoically at those who dare intrude upon their domain. A narrow, crystalline stream fed by glacial melt cuts through the pass, its freezing waters carving deep into the rock below a swaying, dilapidated rope bridge that connects the main trail to a lonely, fortified watchtower perched upon a high crag.
Dense, snow-laden evergreens dot the slopes, their boughs heavy and silent, offering little shelter from the relentless, whistling wind. Ahead, the path narrows further, snaking toward an imposing, ruinous stone archway—the threshold to the mountain’s higher reaches—where the shadows seem to linger just a bit too long, and the true danger of the pass begins.
